India removed port restrictions on import of tea from Sri Lanka
3 million pieces of garments at zero duty to India |
The Government of India has issued Custom Notification, No. 75/2007 dated 5 th June 2007 giving effect to removal of port restrictions limiting imports of tea through two ports namely, Calcutta and Cochin imposed by India on import of tea from Sri Lanka under ISLFTA. Sri Lanka has been persuading India to remove this entry point restriction enabling Sri Lankan exporters to utilize the Tariff Rate Quota of 12.5 million Kgs. At the 9 th Round of Technical Level Negotiations under the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and Sri Lanka held from 29 - 31 March 2007, Colombo , India agreed to Sri Lankan request. Since India has completed necessary formalities, Sri Lankan tea exporters now can export tea to India under ISLFTA without any port restriction.
India and Sri Lanka are also working to finalize procedures for operationalisation of import of 3 million pieces of garments at zero duty without any restriction on sourcing fabrics and entry ports. |
