The Department of Commerce, the focal point of the Government of Sri Lanka pertaining to the formulation of international trade policies is pleased to present the annual trade statistics -2006 Sri Lanka. This publication gives detailed statistical analysis on Sri Lanka 's export and import trade.
The Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (HS) is used for the classification and tabulation of statistics.
In presenting this publication, we hope that the data included herein would be important and useful contribution towards economic studies and research, particularly for the researchers who conduct empirical studies relating to Sri Lanka 's international trade. We also believe that the trade data presented in this publication also be useful for the general public to understand the current status of Sri Lanka's international trade and its future direction.
I acknowledge with thanks the continuous cooperation extended to this Department by the Department of Customs in providing necessary custom data.

The value of Total Imports of Sri Lanka during 2006 was (9867.7) million US $ with an increase of (1552.5) million US $ (18.7%) from the previous year. The import value of 2005 was (8315.2) million US $ with an increase of (389.3) million US $ (4.9%) from the year 2004. |
| Total Exports |
The value of Total Exports of Sri Lanka during 2006 was (6829.5) million US $ with an increase of (664.1) million US $ (10.8%) from the previous year. The export value of 2005 was (6165.4) million US$ with an increase of (553.0) million US$ (9.9%) from the year 2004. |
